Family Time

It has been a challenging week for me as Owen has been having difficulty sleeping through the night, waking up every 2 to 3 hours and only having half hour naps through the day. I have been in a sleep deprived haze for about four days but today I am seeing better. I am going to guess it's teething, a growth spurt or just baby's prerogative! Either way, I know it wont last and can only imagine how our little guy is feeling. Rob and I have been doing our best to give extra cuddles, if that's even possible, and support for each other.

Last weekend we made the trip up to Peterborough to Sean and Casey's new place to spend some quality time with my family as we don't get together as often as we all would like to. The three of us stayed the night while my parents and Leanne headed back to Bancroft after dinner.

It was such a great opportunity to spend time together and really look forward to doing it again soon.

Four Months

This one is a bit late, oops! This past weekend Owen hit four months old and we are really seeing his development into a little guy come quickly. Weighing in at 15 lbs and measuring 65 cm he's getting to be a big boy.

He has begun to purposefully reach for things and bring them to his mouth, where everything ends up! He loves to stand and be part of the action and is now learning that sitting is just as good, all with our assistance of course but surprisingly little, and with that comes much better head stability, lot less bobble head. He is laughing and learning to use his voice, sometimes frightening himself and most times making me laugh. As well, he is so incredibly interested in everything around him, always checking something out with those big blue eyes of his, soaking in as much information as he can. He loves to sit on the balcony with me and watch the traffic go by, or hang out in the park playing with the grass, seeing all the trees and flowers, watching and listening to all the birds. I love his fascination with the world around him.

But I have to say that one of my favorites is seeing his reaction when Dad gets home. His eyes light up, a big smile emerges and the two of them cuddle and play for a for a while. Sometimes Owen even gets super chatty and tells Rob all about his day, at least that's what I think he's telling him.

Owen has always been a great sleeper and going down for the night has usually been not much trouble but lately it has been more of a challenge getting him to sleep during the day when he needs a nap and down for the night. I'm not sure if it's teething that is making him uncomfortable or the fact that he is so interested in his surroundings that it's just harder for him to go down. Either way the past couple of weeks has been a bit of a challenge for me and some days I feel like a complete zombie.

He seems to know this and flashes me one of his gorgeous smiles instantly making everything better.

Gone Swimmin'

You gotta love long weekends. We had a great long weekend with family, Saturday at the market with Grandad and Grandma, Sunday just the three of us relaxing and Monday at my Aunt and Uncles place in Burlington for lunch.

We ventured over to the saltwater pool after lunch and went for a dip. Rob stayed poolside with Owen while I swam around, wow am I ever out of shape!!! Owen was really interested in what everyone was doing so we very, very slowly got him into the pool. At first he was apprehensive but we cuddled and eventually was all the way in.

Not quite sure what to make of it

OK, hand is going in

Still not to sure

We have submersion!

Kicking away quite happily

Teething

Looks like Owen may be teething already. When his fist is not good enough he will happily chew on our finger, shoulder, arm, you name it! It may also explain why his sleep is back to around four hour intervals at night.

Then again, it could just be a baby thing. As parents, we are still learning every day.
