Five Months

Seriously, we have a five month old baby. That's just crazy!!

Baby Owen is very quickly turning into little boy Owen.

He is getting so good at sitting up and balancing, reaching over to grab a toy and even pull himself back up to center again, it's amazing to watch. He's becoming quite good with his fine motor skills, watching him concentrate on picking up a corner of cloth and of course shove it directly into his mouth.

Rob and I just love to sit and watch him just do his thing, even better when he is chatty which he is becoming more of. We have noticed that Owen will try very hard to copy the sounds we make, sometimes with success and sometimes adorable squaks. Either way he is trying hard to learn language and can really see that he is wanting to talk with us.

His Blue Steele look

Also, these past few weeks Owen has suddenly become comfortable on his tummy. It has always been a challenge to get him on his tummy in order to strengthen his arms, upper body and core so to be honest I really didn't to it to often. Now he seems ok and is holding himself up on his arms and even moving from side to side a bit. No rolling over just yet and I'm in no hurry for this one!

He is a very curious guy, always watching what is going on around him and soaking it all in. Well, he has taken a great interest in what we are eating and drinking so I have been giving him tastes of most foods. He is starting to enjoy oatmeal with banana and is quite fond of my morning lattes. He loves the almond milk foam the best and will reach out for my mug once he figures out what I'm drinking. How can I resist.

As for me, no running so far but a lot of walking. We go out almost every day anywhere from one hour to three hours and usually a couple times a day as we both enjoy being out and want to take advantage of the remainder of summer. I really miss running and need to figure out how to get it back into my routine.

What an amazing five months it has been, we are truly blessed parents.

Smoothies

Finding time to eat can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, luckily I like my smoothies and have been experimenting with some new ones. As I am still breastfeeding I don't intend for them to be meal replacements, just some quick and easy extra nutrition.  Here are a few of my current faves.

1 Mango
1 Beet
Good splash of lime juice
Coconut water, unsweetened or Almond milk

Oma Time

My Mom came to visit over the weekend so Rob and I could go out for a date night. Being as tired as we are we opted for some quiet time at home while Oma took Owen out for walks over the two days she was here.

What a treat! Thank you Mom.

Best Thing Ever

...well at least for this week! My Mom had purchased two of these for Owen last winter while travelling down south and I finally used it for the first time last night.

Owen has been teething for a while now but yesterday it seemed to get a bit more intense for him. We had been giving him a frozen washcloth to chew on, which he was really diggin, but then I remembered that I had these stored away. I popped a piece of frozen honeydew melon a bit smaller than the size of my thumb in the sock and gave it to him, within seconds he had it in his mouth and was happily chewing away.

Within 15 minutes or so, six minutes he had pulverized the melon and eaten it all. I think next I will try some frozen peas, bananas and even avocado, a great way to sooth sore gums and introduce solid foods all at the same time. I wasn't planning to introduce solids so soon but it worked so well at comforting him I will continue to do so. Unfortunately it was in the evening and too dark for any pictures but will be sure to get some action shots soon.
