Waa, Waa, Waa

Rob has been suffering from a cold for about two weeks but luckily I have not caught it. He was just starting to feel better but unfortunately, this past Friday he cam home from work feeling worse, body aches, chills and a fever. By Sunday night I had caught it as well.

So, I have slept for the entire day Monday and hope to do the same today. Thankfully, I did not get the fever, just everything else and seem to have lost my voice today! That's ok, it's not like I'm going anywhere!
Being pregnant means that I can't really take anything other than some Tylenol so it's lots of liquids and sleep for me.

Good night and see you in the morning :)

Family Traditions

This past week I had received an email from my Uncle asking if we were interested in using Opa's baby crib for the first few months. Indeed!! It was made by my Opa for all my aunts and uncles to use, which then was used by myself and all the cousins and now will be lovingly put to use by the third generation.

Held together with peg and hole construction, it is simple to assemble, sturdy and quite solid. There is also an arm which attaches to one end that holds a small canopy but I think I may attach a mobile to it. It came with a white eyelet sheet set and bumper which someone had made but Uncle Paul was not to sure who it was, he thought it may have been my Mom.

Seeing this as a perfect opportunity to use up some of my fabric stash I whipped together two crib sheets yesterday from some fun cotton. It was quite gratifying using up material that I had been saving for at least four years with no intended use and am pretty happy with the overall look, not that I'm putting together a baby room or anything. After assembling the crib I did have a bit of a freak out.

Where are we going to put everything!

Mega Bump Update

Well, I am now into the third and final leg of this crazy journey and the past week has been a crazy one indeed. I was feeling achy and cramps for four days straight, right from the very bottom to the top of the bump, as well as everything was really hard. I am now used to when my belly stretches and the sensations to expect but they usually only last for a few hours, not days and not this much discomfort. Finally on Tuesday it subsided and back to normal, didn't think much of it after that.

Realizing that my winter jacket is suddenly barely able to do up I was curious, so out comes the measuring tape. I like to measure everything once and a while just for fun because this will be the only time in my life I get excited about getting so big. Sure enough my belly (what used to be waistline) grew an entire inch, one whole inch in one week!! How freaking cool is that. No wonder I was so uncomfortable.

It also seems that I have cut my toenails myself for the last time as it nearly killed me trying to, looks like I may have to send Rob for an estheticians course so I don't go completely to pot.

It's hard to believe that we are now just under three months to go and as every day passes we getting more and more excited to meet our little Pip.

Diaper Update

It has been a while since last posting, last week I was a bit busier with work, had to do the glucose test (came back just fine as I suspected) and was fighting a cold. Unfortunately Rob ended up getting it pretty nasty so this past weekend was some very serious sofa surfing for the two of us. Today is the first time in almost a week I am feeling myself again as I have the Beastie Boys cranked on the stereo and I'm accomplishing more than going from the sofa to the kitchen!

A while back I had posted about cloth diapering and how I was interested in trying it out. Luckily for me my parents read this blog and I was sent a fantastic care package of baby clothes, a couple of knit garments and blanket that Mom knit up (sooo cute) and all the materials needed to make my own diaper covers! Well, the second I had enough energy and some time I was cutting and sewing away. Mom, as I am sure Dad was not fabric shopping, chose some very adorable monkey fabric and coordinating solid to make the covers from, including the elastic edging, green velcro and cute patches for the back.

I was able to whip two together in no time, modifying the pattern by adding leg gussets and the inside flap to help hold the diaper in place. The fabric cover is a soft polyester backed with a thin waterproof layer to help keep everything in. These were so much fun to make I have ordered more supplies online so I can use the monkey fabric to make more covers. I have also ordered a few bamboo cloth diapers to see how everything fits together.

Unfortunately I am going to wait until Pip arrives to make many more as I would like to ensure fit is good, it will be easier to alter them once I have a body to put them on. I say that now, we'll see.

Just a quick shot for an idea of scale. So darn cute!

Bump Update

Finally got myself out of my stretchy pants and into some real clothes and a pair of heels this week for a hot date with my husband. I couldn't help but laugh as had no idea that I popped again, it looks like I stuffed a basket ball up my dress. I had picked this dress up in the spring as it was a simple slip on dress that was nice and loose, thank goodness for that!

Everything is still going along smoothly, still hungry as a horse and eating every three hours while doing my best to keep it as nutritious as possible. Did some more yoga this week and Pip loves it, every time I finish I get rewarded with about half an hour of stretching, kicking and lots of moving around. I think its the gentle stretches that open up my mid section that Pip loves, more space to move around.

I am still completely obsessed over my ever expanding bellybutton. It is getting too close to becoming flush with my belly for my comfort, not that there is anything I can do about it. I still want to believe that it's not going to pop, fingers crossed. Mind you, my ass is disappearing as well as my bellybutton this week, just don't understand where it's going. Surprisingly (for the volume of food I eat) I have only gained around 10 - 12 lbs but I'm quite sure that will dramatically change over the next few weeks, especially since I just wrote it down for all to see, karma will get me back.

We have passed into double digits remaining until Pip's arrival. Passing the 100 days remaining was a big deal for us, it just sounds so much closer.

Happy Birthday

Rob and I share our Birthday weekend as we are only two days apart, this year we splurged and got ourselves one big gift to share. A stroller!

The best part was that we never left the house to do it. We had been looking online at different manufacturers and the hundreds of reviews that come along with each style as well as trying not to spend a ton either. It was hard as we both really liked the sleek and stylish ones that usually included a bassinet and came with a hefty price tag. I figured that if I'm going to become a zombie covered in puke I need to try and distract peoples attention with a sexy stroller.

Well, we came across the UppaBaby Vista that two of my cousins have and highly recommend so we felt comfortable ordering it. It comes with a detachable bassinet (bonus) and on amazon it was such a fantastic deal we could not pass it up. Even with shipping, duties and taxes it was a great deal and two days later it arrived from Arizona!

I am going to put this in the "pregnancy hormones" category but when it arrived I was so tempted to put it together and go for a walk, yes, go for a walk with an empty stroller. It was the fact that I would put myself into the full on crazy lady label that I decided not to.

I'll try to keep the crazy to a minimum, for now.

Happy Birthday to Us.

Where's Winter?

Don't know where you are right now but Toronto is basking is some serious spring weather. Yesterday was stunning reaching a balmy 10 degrees so I went for a one hour walk wishing it could have been a run! That's ok, soon enough. Today again is has been hovering around 7 or 8 and quite sunny with some very black sky to the north, east and west of us so I don't think this is going to last too long.

I came across a crazy looking smoothie so had to try it out. We both love going to the market at getting a fresh beet juice with ginger, our place is too small for a juicer so it's a once and a while treat. Well, this smoothie may fix that.

Beet Smoothie - adapted from Smith Bites

1 - 2 roasted beets
1 med to large orange
big chunk of fresh ginger peeled
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
approx. 1/2 cup of any kind of milk

Blend all together. I'm not a fan of really sweet drinks so omitted any sweeteners, the protein powder adds some sweetness along with the roasted beets. I like it spicy so added almost an inch of ginger.
Be prepared, it tastes way different than it looks, especially if you don't know what's in it!

Finally a pizza update. The dough that I had mad up last week (or was it longer than that? ) was used up on Sunday night for pizzas and was probably even better than before. I think the week of developing in the fridge was what did the trick. This week I made up a white pizza as my Mom and I were trading recipes and she had sent along one that looked good. Of course I changed it up but it was a great inspiration. You can check out their adventures of making pizza in the desert here. You will need to scroll down a bit.
